In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 & 8, including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center.
About the Position
11th Street Bridge Park (a project of Building Bridges Across the River) is seeking a part-time operations driver who is responsible for safely transporting our mobile kiosk to designated locations in Washington DC within a specific timeframe over the course of two business days (Sat-Sun). Typically working less than full-time hours, by adhering to traffic laws, performing pre-trip vehicle inspections, following assigned routes, and maintaining clear communication with 11th Street Bridge Park and business owner or other team members; essentially fulfilling delivery or transportation needs on a part-time basis while prioritizing operational efficiency and safety.
*Friday kiosk prep/clean, supply pick up, storage run.
(these two can be built out a little more)
*Monday to attend our weekly BP meeting.
Responsibilities and Functions Include
Vehicle Operation:
Safely drive company vehicles to deliver goods or transport personnel to designated locations according to established routes and schedules.
Pre-trip Inspections:
Perform routine vehicle checks before each shift to ensure proper functionality, including fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, and overall safety.
Loading and Unloading:
Assist small businesses with loading and unloading products, ensuring proper securing of items within the vehicle as needed.
Route Planning:
Follow assigned delivery routes and optimize driving paths to ensure timely deliveries.
Documentation:
Complete necessary paperwork including delivery receipts, logs, and incident reports.
Customer Service:
Interact with participating small businesses in a professional manner, addressing any concerns related to deliveries.
Communication:
Maintain clear communication with dispatch regarding delivery status, delays, and any issues encountered.
Safety Compliance:
Adher to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and DOT regulations.
Basic Maintenance:
Report any vehicle maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience operating various types of vehicles depending on the role (vans, trucks, etc.)
Strong geographical knowledge of Washington DC.
Excellent time management skills to meet delivery deadlines.
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy items when necessary (min 25 lbs max 50 lbs.)
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to professionally communicate with diverse populations; polished customer service skills.
Ability to tackle multiple tasks simultaneously, without losing focus or attention on any task; not afraid to ask for help when needed.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Flexible to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends), including on-call and overtime hours
