We are seeking a compassionate and high-performing Registered Nurse (RN) to join a 30-bed Neuro Stroke Stepdown Unit on a per diem basis in Chicago, IL . This unit specializes in caring for post-stroke and neurointerventional patients in a stepdown or COU (Clinical Observation Unit) setting. Ideal candidates will be confident in managing patients with neurological deficits and committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:Provide direct nursing care to patients in a neuro stepdown/telemetry setting
Monitor and manage post-stroke and post-neurointerventional patients
Perform and interpret EKGs , assess neuro changes, and communicate changes in condition promptly
Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to deliver safe and effective care
Document all care accurately using EPIC EMR
Administer medications, monitor telemetry, and manage equipment as needed
Collaborate with neurologists, rehab teams, and care coordinators to optimize patient recovery
Float to similar units as needed (e.g., Telemetry, Stepdown)
Active Illinois RN license (Required)
BLS and ACLS certification (AHA Required)
NIHSS certification (Required)
Proficiency in EPIC EMR (Required)
Ability to perform EKGs independently (Required)
Minimum 1 year of experience in a stepdown or neuro/tele unit (Preferred)
Strong neuro assessment skills and critical thinking required
