Job Description

Eccalon is looking for a Research Specialist to provide analytical, investigative, and subject matter research support to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSD A&S). This position supports data-driven decision-making by gathering, evaluating, and synthesizing information relevant to defense acquisition, sustainment, and industrial base policies and programs. The specialist contributes to strategic initiatives, policy development, and program oversight by delivering high-quality research products to inform leadership. This position requires an Active Top Secret/SCI Security clearance .

Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on topics related to defense acquisition, logistics, sustainment, industrial base resiliency, and program performance.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from a wide range of sources, including government databases, industry reports, legislation, academic publications, and internal DoD systems.
  • Prepare concise, well-documented research briefs, white papers, talking points, and presentations for senior DoD leadership.
  • Track emerging trends, policy developments, and legislative actions that impact acquisition and sustainment operations.
  • Support the development and evaluation of metrics, benchmarks, and performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with analysts, policy advisors, program managers, and technical experts across DoD and external agencies.
  • Ensure research outputs are accurate, objective, and aligned with current DoD strategic priorities and guidance.
  • Maintain familiarity with classified and unclassified DoD data sources, adhering to information security protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of specialized in strategic communications.
  • Executive level support experience, experience within DoD and other federal agencies.
  • Experience in leading and providing technical guidance and direction involving multiple projects of high complexity.
  • Must have experience in managing customer expectations and working directly with customers.
  • Must have outstanding customer service abilities to initiative, judgement, creativity, flexibility, and confidence.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task across multiple projects.
