Job Description

Repair & Rework Operations

  • Manage and supervise the day-to-day activities of the SMT repair and rework team.
  • Oversee and perform manual rework, component replacement, BGA reballing, hand soldering, and trace/PCB repair on SMT and through-hole assemblies.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 rework and repair standards.
  • Review non-conforming products and coordinate disposition, repair, and retesting.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all repaired/reworked units meet customer, quality, and regulatory requirements before release.
  • Monitor defect trends and repair rates; collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to identify and eliminate root causes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and traceability for all repair/rework actions.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead and mentor a team of repair and rework technicians.
  • Develop and implement training programs to maintain high skill levels and ensure compliance with workmanship standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development within the team.

Process Improvement

  • Continuously assess rework and repair processes to improve throughput, yield, and first-pass success rates.
  • Evaluate tools, equipment, and procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce rework cycle time.
  • Support engineering in the evaluation and testing of new materials or methods related to rework.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to provide feedback on defect trends and manufacturability issues.
  • Participate in failure analysis and corrective action processes for recurring quality issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in SMT repair/rework in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing technical teams.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certifications required (or ability to obtain).
  • Excellent soldering skills including fine-pitch, BGA, and micro-components.
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, schematics, and repair tools/equipment.
