Job Description

Eleven Recruiting is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join one of our largest Inductor/Transformer Power Electronics clients sitting onsite in a Pittsburgh, PA facility or Plano, Texas. This role is pivotal in designing and developing custom inductive components, such as transformers and inductors, for a diverse range of industries including renewable energy, solar, medical, aerospace, automotive, and military. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering rapid, accurate designs while supporting both engineering and production functions across multiple global sites.

Responsibilities:

• Design and Development: Lead the design and development of custom inductive components, including transformers and inductors, ensuring they meet industry standards and client specifications.
• Technical Support: Provide prompt and effective technical design support in response to customer inquiries, determining the appropriate scope—preliminary/full design, follow-up, or redirection.
• Tool Development: Develop and maintain inductor design tools and internal software to improve design accuracy, speed, and consistency.
• Technical Reviews: Prepare internal RFQs and review/mark up technical part prints to ensure alignment with specifications and manufacturability.
• Production Support: Support domestic and international production teams by anticipating and resolving engineering questions and offering technical expertise.
• Testing and Validation: Operate and interpret results from in-house electrical test equipment to validate design integrity and quality.
• Material Qualification: Collaborate with purchasing and production teams to identify and qualify materials and components that meet performance and cost targets.
• Product Transfer: Facilitate new product transfer by developing comprehensive procedures, test specifications, and training documentation; ensuring a smooth handoff to manufacturing.
• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in product design, testing methods, and cross-functional engineering collaboration.

Technical Specifications:

• Voltage: Up to 15kV.
• Current: Up to 1000A.
• Frequency: 50/60Hz up to 100’s of MHz.
• Power Magnetics: 50/60Hz to 500kHz.
• RF Magnetics: Up to 100’s of MHz.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
• Experience: 5–10 years of experience in transformer or inductor design is required.
• Skills: Familiarity with electrical component manufacturing and testing.
• Preferred Experience: Knowledge in Power Distribution Systems, Control Systems, Failure Analysis, Electrical Product Design, or National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in relevant design and simulation software (e.g., Ansys, PSPICE, MATLAB-Simulink, SolidWorks) is a plus.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical thinking, technical communication, and project management skills.
