Job Description

The Nurse Manager in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and administration of the facility and the efficient delivery of patient care. This position involves overseeing the daily surgicalflow, coordinating staff activities, managingmedication and supply orders, conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with established protocols and standards, and administrative matters such as owning the budget, marketing to expand the surgery center, and other duties as requested by the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The Nurse Manager will also be the liaison between the Providers and the Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the clinic.
  • Completes constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the GROW Program is applied and ASC staff is tested on a quarterly basis. Keeps track of staff and helps grow their careers.
  • Ensures that staff is adequately cross trained for multiple roles within the ASC.
  • Builds strong relationships with physicians, employees, managers, the EHVS Practice Director, and vendors, fostering collaboration and outstanding patient care.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff meets KPIs.
  • Coaching Staff Members

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Surgical Flow Management:
  • Oversee and manage the surgical scheduleto ensure efficient utilization of resources and staff
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other team membersto ensure a seamless flow of surgeries throughout the day
  • Address any unexpected changes or emergencies that may arise during the surgical day.
  • Put in a strategy to move the ASC to electronic charts as opposed to paperless charts
  • Review processes of other ASCs and find opportunities for improvement and cohesion so that staff may flow between St James and GNBSC with little process interruptions
  1. Staff Meeting Agenda Assistance:
  • Draft the agenda for staff meetings
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve patientcare, operational efficiency, and

team collaboration

  • Participate and help lead staff meetings and communicate important updates to the nursing team
  • Drive ASC efficiencies
  1. Medication and Supply Ordering:
  • Take responsibility for managing the inventory of medications and surgical supplies.
  • Collaborate with the ASC's procurement department to ensure timelyand accurate ordering of necessary items
  • Monitor and track medication usage to preventshortages and wastage
  1. Monthly Audits:
  • Conduct monthly auditsto assess the compliance of staff and processes with established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with the ASC management to implement corrective actions
  • Ensure that all documentation, equipment, and procedures meet the ASC's quality standards
  1. Staff Supervision and Support:
  • Provide guidanceand leadership to the nursingstaff in the ASC.
  1. Copo Committee
  • Responsible for the Copo Committee agenda
  • Responsible for all reporting
  1. Infection Control Nurse
  • Oversee employee health and safety
  • Infection Control audits
  • Maintain one additional hour CEU specifically for infection control
  1. Laser Safety Officer
  2. Credentialing Staff/CRNAs/Providers
  3. AAAHC Compliance
  4. Budgets
  5. SOPs and annual updates to each
  6. Approval Timesheets and Payroll for ASC
  7. Training for all roles in the ASC
  8. Building morale and career development of ASC team
  9. Patient Care:
  • Assist in providing direct patient care as needed,ensuring adherence to best practices and patient safety guidelines.
  • Monitor patientoutcomes and intervenepromptly in case of any complications or concerns.
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients before,during, and after

surgery.

Requirements

  • RN degree plus 10+ years of experience in an ASC, Operating Room, or Emergency Room setting
  • Must be licensed RN in State of MA and commit to obtaining RN license in Rhode Island within three months of start date.
  • Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
  • Support and mentornew nurses, ensuringthey receive appropriate training and orientation.
  • Collaborate with the Employee Success Team and Executive Leadership Team to addressany staffing issuesor concerns.

Education and Experience:

  • At least 10 years relevantexperience required.
  • Experience in Ophthalmology/Optometry preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing during procedures in the ASC
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to other locations is necessary at times.
  • Cross-training in Warwick, RI will be required
  • Occupational Exposure - Category Ill exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards

Compensation:

  • $90,000 to $100,000
  • Full benefits package
