GIS Analyst IIIto join the team. This position is a remote position.

Cook Inlet Region, Inc., also known as CIRI, is one of 12 land-based Alaska Native regional corporations created pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Position Overview

The GIS Analyst III performs a wide range of advanced geospatial tasks with minimal supervision. This position is responsible for executing complex spatial analysis, developing customized GIS solutions and maintaining key geospatial datasets. This position will serve as lead on specific projects and provide technical support and guidance to team members.

Major Activities

  • Perform complex geospatial analysis and create high-quality cartographic products, reports, and applications to support departmental goals.
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise geodatabases and GIS data layers.
  • Develop and customize web and desktop GIS applications using scripting languages and Esri APIs (e.g., Python with ArcPy).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues related to GIS software, data, and workflows.
  • Assist in the development of project plans, technical specifications, and documentation for new GIS initiatives.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on spatial data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to internal users on GIS applications and best practices.
  • Lead special projects by providing project support to team members, managing timelines and resources, ensuring alignment with project scope and ensuring successful delivery.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the Esri ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Proficient in scripting with Python for geoprocessing and task automation.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL for querying and managing spatial data.
  • Extensive knowledge in data collection techniques, including GPS.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and software quickly.
  • Ability to research, organize, and analyze technical information with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees, Federal Government personnel and other outside professionals.
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS technology techniques and practices of project management.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including thorough knowledge of proper grammar, advanced vocabulary, spelling, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and exercise excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and independently prioritizes workload, while working on multiple projects.

Physical Abilities

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time
  • Visual and communication abilities adequate to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field
  • Four years experience as a GIS Analyst with demonstrated experience working with the Esri ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online and data collection techniques such as GPS.
  • Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
