Job Description

Our client, a mission-driven healthcare organization, is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead operations, strategic growth, and community impact. This leader will be responsible for fostering collaboration among multiple healthcare and academic partners, ensuring operational and financial sustainability, and advancing the organization’s vision of providing accessible, equitable, patient-centered care.

This role offers a unique opportunity to guide a highly respected, community-engaged primary care center through its next chapter of growth and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight for all organizational operations, ensuring strategic alignment across healthcare partners, academic programs, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and optimization of diverse revenue streams, including clinical productivity, government funding, grants, donor relationships, and endowment growth.
  • Partner with healthcare systems, academic programs, and residency leadership to strengthen community healthcare delivery and advance education initiatives.
  • Ensure financial stability and sustainability through effective budgeting, cash flow monitoring, reimbursement strategies, and expense oversight.
  • Guide and mentor a multidisciplinary executive team while maintaining strong relationships with the Board, owners, and community stakeholders.
  • Spearhead strategic initiatives, such as expanding service lines (walk-in clinic, dental, memory care) and establishing pathways toward Residency Center of Excellence designation.
  • Increase organizational visibility and impact through community outreach, positioning the organization as a recognized Health Equity Hub.
  • Navigate the complexities of a mission-driven, multi-owner structure to sustain growth and innovation.

Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with a proven ability to build credibility and trust across diverse stakeholders.
  • Visionary and collaborative leadership style with demonstrated passion for community-based, patient-centered healthcare.
  • Successful track record in revenue generation and fundraising, including donor cultivation and endowment development.
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen, with experience in optimizing reimbursement strategies and ensuring fiscal sustainability.
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field.
  • Physician leadership background (MD or DO).

Preferred:

  • Licensed (or eligibility for licensure) and Board Certified in Family Medicine in Wisconsin.
  • Experience in family medicine residency education and/or ambulatory primary care practice.
  • Background in nonprofit healthcare organizations.
