Job Description

The Corporate Safety Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the company's safety programs and policies across multiple food manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced safety professional with a strong background in the food industry, a deep understanding of OSHA, FDA, and other relevant regulations, and a proven track record of reducing workplace accidents and injuries. This role requires a strategic leader who can foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive corporate safety strategy that aligns with business objectives and promotes a culture of safety.
  • Program Management: Design, implement, and maintain effective safety programs, including but not limited to:
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Confined Space
  • Hazard Communication (HazCom)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Emergency Action Plans
  • Accident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
  • Ergonomics
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities are in full compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, and other relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations. Stay current with changes in safety laws and industry best practices.
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of all manufacturing facilities to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues. Develop and monitor corrective action plans.
  • Training and Development: Create and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees at all levels, from new hires to management.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead and oversee all incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Performance Metrics: Develop and track key safety performance indicators (KPIs), such as incident rates, lost-time injuries, and near-misses. Report on safety performance to senior leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with operations, HR, engineering, and other departments to integrate safety into all aspects of the business.
  • Budget Management: Manage the corporate safety budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support safety initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous improvement, regularly reviewing and updating safety programs to enhance effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in safety, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the food manufacturing or a similar highly regulated industry.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations, especially those relevant to manufacturing (e.g., General Industry, Process Safety Management).
  • An understanding of food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, GFSI, and others) and their intersection with occupational safety.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and motivate at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel to various manufacturing facilities as needed.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills would be a strong additional tool in the position.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and other common industry elements.
