Job Description

Operational Technical Services (OTS) is one of the fastest growing private water and wastewater utility staffing providers in the country. We provide certified water treatment, distribution, wastewater treatment, collections, engineering, laboratory, water quality, maintenance, and training professionals to municipalities, special districts, and private utilities throughout the country. OTS offers temporary, temp to hire, direct hire and emergency on-call opportunities, including great benefits.

TITLE: Wastewater Chief Plant Operator

LOCATION: San Bernardino County, California

SALARY: $100,000-150,000/yr

REPORTS TO: Regional Director

SHIFT: 7AM to 4PM

Job Objective:

Reporting directly to the Regional Director and/or the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager/CPO has full responsibility for the successful operation and maintenance of the assigned facility wastewater and collection system. This is an active working leadership and operations position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage the assets of assigned facilities, associated personnel and clients
  • Provide leadership for the operation & maintenance personnel including significant responsibility for training, performance evaluations, mentoring etc.
  • Manages ongoing utilization of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking Asset Management
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and clients
  • Analyze and resolve problems with process and/or equipment
  • Review lab tests and interpret data
  • Perform equipment operation and maintenance
  • Meet deliverables as required for the wastewater facility and collections system
  • Work nights & weekends if necessary to maintain facility for compliance
  • Create and distribute client and operating data reports
  • Prepare and coordinate regulatory data as required by client
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory permits
  • Oversee and perform process adjustments to maintain treatment process compliance
  • Perform other duties and participate in the operation of other facilities on limited basis as needed
  • Client Interface including attending scheduled client meetings as requested and required
  • Prepare Monthly Operations Reports to client
  • Prepare and support Capital Replacement projects specific to assigned facilities
  • Promote and adhere to Company’s written corporate Safety program
  • Maintain acceptable attendance per Company standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • General computer knowledge; good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent team-working and communications skills to enable effective interaction with and supervision of Company personnel.
  • Must possess good verbal, written and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with coworkers and supervisor. Ability to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
  • Physical:
  • Body Positions: Standing, sitting for extended periods of time, walking.
  • Body Movements: Use of hands, eyes, arms and voice. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to climb on, or into facility equipment and systems
  • Willingness to travel a plus.

Communication:

Language ability includes reading, writing, spelling, and the ability to communicate

Clearly on business topics in English.

Education, Professional Credentials and Experience Required:

  • Valid California Grade IV or V Wastewater Certification
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of supervisory or leadership for wastewater operations
  • Valid state issued driver’s license.

Work Conditions:

  • Water Reclamation Facility & Collection System (indoor and outdoor).

MUST HAVES FOR ROLE:

  • Utility Pants: Employees must wear durable utility pants suitable for the work environment.
  • Safety Shoes: Steel-toed or other appropriate safety shoes are mandatory to protect against workplace hazards.
  • Candidates must consent to and pass a background check and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
