As JLA’s team continues to grow, the school is looking for a full-time Audio-Visual (AV) Specialist (Mid-Level) who has a solid understanding of different educational technologies to support the effective use of technology in K-12 classrooms.
The School AV Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining all audio-visual systems and technology across the school campus. This individual plays a critical role in supporting educational programs, school events, classroom technology, and staff training by ensuring all AV resources are operational, accessible, and utilized to enhance learning.
The successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation and be able to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and students to provide timely and effective technical support.
This is an in-person, full-time position who will report directly to the IT Director.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES __________________________________________________
The position includes, but are not limited to these primary areas of responsibility:
● Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot all AV equipment, including projectors, smartboards, sound systems, microphones, video conferencing tools, and classroom multimedia devices.
● Ensure regular maintenance schedules for AV equipment, including cleaning, firmware updates, and parts replacement as necessary.
● Set up, operate, and dismantle portable AV equipment for school events such as open houses, performances, presentations, and professional development sessions.
● Provide technical support for teachers, administrators, and students in the use of AV equipment.
● Develop and deliver training sessions and user guides to maximize effective use of AV tools and platforms.
● Work closely with IT and facilities teams to plan and implement AV technology upgrades and new installations.
● Research, evaluate, and recommend new AV solutions to meet the evolving needs of the school.
● Manage inventory, procurement, and life cycle of AV equipment.
● Assist with integrating new technologies into the classrooms and other spaces.
● Consult with event organizers to determine AV needs and provide onsite support during events including after hours and weekends.
● Operate lighting, sound, and video equipment during live performances, presentations, open house, and holidays events.
● Manage live streaming, recording, and archiving of significant events.
● Participate in the school technology planning and implementation meetings.
● Be accountable for the schools' start-up and end-of-year technology processes.
● Ensure computers are always updated with the latest security patches.
● Undertake any other relevant activities as directed by the IT Director.
QUALIFICATIONS _________________________________________________________
The successful candidate will have an Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Audio-Visual Technology, Communications and Information Technology with at least 3+ years of proven experience in AV installation, operation and troubleshooting.
● Extensive experience with AV control systems such as Crestron, Just Add Power, digital and analog soundboards, Zoom video conferencing, and modern classroom technologies.
● Strong technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues quickly under pressure.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse school community members.
● Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work from ladders or lifts when needed.
● Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
● Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies.
● Experience with computer hardware and software troubleshooting for Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS, iOS, and TV.
● Advanced knowledge operating audio mixers and Dante routing.
● Basic understanding of IP Addressing, Subnets, and VLANs.
● Familiarity with networking services and protocols such as DNS & DHCP.
● Hands-on experience with Shure, QSC, and Blackmagic devices.
● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
● Strong organizational and time management skills with great attention to detail.
● Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS __________________________________
● Experience working in an educational setting or for a K-12 institution.
● Knowledge of streaming technology and video production/editing tools.
