Job Description

As an associate chair for fashion, you will lead a team of faculty and staff in achieving departmental and university missions, visions, and values. In consultation with the dean, associate dean, chair, and other department members, you will provide input on the department's strategic direction and implement strategies to gain recognition and high rankings. Within your team, you will promote a positive and respectful environment through regular communication. You will also foster academic excellence in instruction, engagement, and work outcomes through documented student achievement results. Additionally, you will teach classes as assigned, assist with accreditation matters, and collaborate with various university departments.

In this role, you will oversee faculty to ensure compliance with the Faculty Handbook, and regularly review the curriculum for quality, relevance, and alignment with educational outcome statements, assessments, and accreditation activities. You will also coordinate curriculum development with program leaders and internal teams at other SCAD locations and manage academic scheduling in collaboration with academic services. Among other duties, you will coordinate resources, complete annual performance reviews, and schedule individual meetings with faculty to discuss review results. Additionally, you will participate in faculty recruitment trips, interviews, and candidate presentations; submit anticipated headcount needs; review potential candidates to provide recommendations; and consult with academic leaders on hiring decisions.

In this position, you will decide on student course substitutions and exemptions, applications for independent studies or internships, waivers of prerequisites, and more. You will work with the admission team to recruit students and review applications. Responsibilities include the coordination of student work submissions for competitions and awards, collaborations with the career and alumni success team on internship opportunities, and preparation of quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports. You will also monitor key departmental data, review and evaluate purchase and travel requests, and manage partnerships with professional and academic organizations.

As an associate chair, you will lead faculty and staff in showcasing exemplary student work, especially during high-profile events. Among other duties you will serve as the primary department ambassador to promote the university, anticipate trends to suggest strategies for program implementation, and use good judgment to resolve faculty or student issues.

The ideal candidate demonstrates exemplary interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. They can turn a strategic vision into measurable actions and have a solid understanding of curriculum development and how assessments are used to enhance learning and programs. The candidate is dedicated to excellence in academics, shown through innovative, energetic, and exemplary leadership.

They can make fair decisions about students' academic interests, including waivers and expectations, as detailed in reports. The candidate works well with others to provide students with the best opportunities. They are passionate about teaching and excited about working with various learning styles at a leading arts university. The candidate also exhibits innovative, energetic, and model leadership with a dedication to personal and professional integrity.

The associate chair maintains a visible, on-site presence.
