The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered Professional Nurse responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care on an individual unit. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager utilizes the nursing process in evaluating and assessing the nursing needs of patients. Demonstrates awareness of nursing skills, ability and classification of staff and prepares appropriate patient assignments.
Consults and collaborates with other health team members to coordinate and maximize the quality of patient care. Promotes customer satisfaction and assumes role of patient advocate. Supports and participates in the orientation of new personnel to the unit. Assigns unit staff to breaks and replaces nurses during breaks when necessary. Identifies the learning needs of nursing staff in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and the Staff Development Instructor and organizes in-service programs for staff to facilitate introduction of current trends in clinical practice.
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager makes effective recommendations for hiring, firing, and performance appraisals for nursing staff. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager provides staff counseling and direction for professional growth and positive behavior changes. Acts as a resource to unit staff and/or networks with alternate sources of expertise to meet patient and/or unit needs.
Develops and monitors guidelines and utilizes data obtained to monitor compliance with patient care standards. Identifies, investigates and reports patient/environmental safety factors in collaboration with the Hospital Risk Manager. Communicates pertinent patient and administrative information to other shifts. Maintains adequate levels of supplies, assures the availability of emergency equipment and sees that equipment is maintained in proper working condition. Participates in the development and implementation of unit policies and procedures and guidelines. Provides input into the development of new and/or expanded programs.
Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a staff Nurse.
Licensed and currently registered under the laws of the State of New York as a Nurse.
3+ years of Nursing Supervisory experience with good organizational and communication skills.
BSN degree or national professional certification preferred.
Labor and Delivery/OB experience preferred.
