Job Description

The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of YWCA Columbus’ financial systems, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and supporting the organization’s mission-driven operations. This position provides critical accounting expertise across multiple functional areas—including month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit preparation.

An ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment. Experience in grant accounting or nonprofit fund accounting is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports to support management decision-making.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data across multiple funding streams.
  • Support grant tracking, reporting, and compliance requirements in coordination with program and development teams.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with the Director of Finance to prepare for annual audits and other financial reviews.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure timely and accurate financial information for grants, programs, and operations.
  • Contribute to process improvements and financial system enhancements.


Qualifications :

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong understanding of GAAP principles and financial reporting. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to teamwork and collaboration. Experience in nonprofit or fund accounting and knowledge of grant management, reporting, and compliance preferred.
